Care services
Personal support and companionship in your own home, from a carefully matched live-in carer.
Live-in care is the option most families do not know exists until someone tells them. A carer moves into the spare room and is there through the day, with proper breaks and their own space.
For a couple, or for someone with a house, a garden and a cat they do not want to leave, it is very often the better answer. The person stays where they are, keeps their routine and their neighbours, and the family can feel reassured that regular support is available at home.
When it is not the right answer. It needs a spare room the carer can call their own. It also needs the person to be reasonably comfortable with someone living in the house — for some people that is harder than a care home, and it is worth being honest about that early.
What is included
The care plan is written with you, so this is a starting point rather than a fixed list.
Personal care, meals, agreed medication support, company and supervision, with flexible support built around the person’s agreed daily routine.
Cooking, laundry, shopping, light housework, agreed household tasks, appointments and everyday organisation.
Appointments, the shops, the pub, the garden centre, visits to family.
A carer sleeping in, available if needed. Waking nights are arranged separately.
Following an assessment, one live-in carer may be able to support both people, helping couples remain together in their own home.
The live-in carer’s breaks and time off are agreed in advance. Where continuous cover is required, we can discuss suitable replacement arrangements.
The carer will need a clean, private bedroom with suitable storage, heating and access to a bathroom, kitchen and laundry facilities. Reliable internet access should also be available.
A live-in carer normally sleeps during the night but can provide occasional assistance when needed. If regular or prolonged support is required overnight, we may recommend a separate waking-night service. We will discuss this during the assessment.
The cost depends on the person’s needs and the level of support required. Live-in care can be a cost-effective option, particularly for couples, but we will provide a clear quotation following a free assessment.
Live-in carers need regular daily breaks, rest time and agreed time off. These arrangements are discussed during the assessment and included in the care plan. Where replacement cover is needed, we will arrange this with the family in advance.
We consider the person’s care needs, routines, personality, interests, communication and preferences. We also consider experience with medication, mobility support, cooking, pets, driving and other practical requirements.
Wherever possible, the person and their family can speak with or meet the proposed carer beforehand. This allows everyone to ask questions and decide whether the match feels right.
We will contact the family and arrange suitable replacement cover as quickly as possible. The contingency arrangements will be discussed before care begins and recorded in the care plan.
Food, travel and mileage arrangements will be explained before the service begins. Any additional costs will be clearly shown in the quotation and agreed with you in advance.
Live-in care means a carer lives in the person’s home and provides agreed support throughout the day, with regular breaks and rest. A sleeping-night carer sleeps in the home and is available when occasional assistance is needed during the night. A waking-night carer remains awake and on duty throughout the night to provide regular or continuous support. Following an assessment, we will help you choose the most suitable arrangement or combination of services.
The start date depends on completing the assessment and finding a suitably matched carer. Where care is needed urgently, we will act as quickly as possible without compromising safety or the quality of the match.
