Care services
Sleeping nights for reassurance, or waking nights for hands-on support right through until morning.
Providing care throughout the night can be exhausting for family carers, especially when sleep is regularly interrupted. Regular night-time support allows family carers to rest, knowing their loved one is safe and supported.
Night care is either a carer sleeping in your home and available if needed, or a carer who remains awake and available throughout the night to provide the agreed support in the care plan. Which one you need is a question the assessment answers honestly.
When it is not the right answer. Some overnight clinical needs require support from a registered nurse or community healthcare team. We will assess the person’s needs carefully and work alongside district nurses and other professionals to arrange safe and appropriate support.
What is included
The care plan is written with you, so this is a starting point rather than a fixed list.
A carer sleeps in the house and is available if you need them. The number and length of interruptions will be agreed during the assessment — if regular support is required, a waking night may be more suitable.
A carer remains awake and on duty to provide agreed support such as toileting, repositioning, medication, reassurance or companionship.
Regular changes, skin checks and pad management, helping the person remain clean, comfortable and protected throughout the night.
Turning to protect skin, completed according to the agreed schedule and recorded clearly in the care notes.
Agreed night-time or early-morning medication support, provided according to the care plan and recorded appropriately.
A written note each morning so the day carer, or you, know exactly how the night went.
They are priced differently because a waking night is a full shift. We quote both after the assessment so you can compare.
Yes. Night care can be arranged for a short period, subject to an assessment and staff availability. This may be helpful following a hospital discharge or to give a family carer a break. Urgent arrangements may also be considered, subject to completing a safe assessment and having suitable carers available.
The carer will need a clean, private bedroom with suitable sleeping facilities. If a separate room is unavailable, we can discuss whether waking-night care would be more appropriate.
Our standard night-care shift is from 10:00pm to 7:00am. Different start and finish times may be arranged following an assessment, depending on the person’s routine, needs and staff availability.
Sleeping-night care is intended for occasional support during the night. If the carer is regularly woken or required to provide prolonged assistance, we will review the care plan with you. A waking-night service may be more suitable to ensure the person receives safe support and the carer has proper rest.
Before care begins, we assess medication, repositioning, continence and any other night-time needs. Clear instructions are included in the care plan, and all support provided is recorded appropriately while protecting the person’s comfort, privacy and dignity.
Yes. If moving and handling cannot be completed safely by one person, we can arrange two carers following an assessment. Suitable equipment and moving-and-handling guidance must be in place, and the carers must have the required training.
We will listen to your needs and complete an assessment before recommending sleeping-night care, waking-night care or short-term support. Our aim is to find an arrangement that is safe, practical and suitable for the person and their family.
