Care services

Personal care

Help with washing, dressing and getting ready for the day — at the pace you set, from a familiar and carefully matched carer.

Personal care is the part people put off asking about. It is also the part that, done well, gives a day its shape: up, washed, dressed, breakfast, and out into the rest of it.

We provide personal care with the dignity, patience and respect we would want for someone in our own family. The same carer wherever we can, so you are not explaining yourself again each morning. Time to do it properly rather than a rush to the next call. And a plain conversation at the start about exactly what you want help with and what you would rather do yourself.

Who this suits

  • Someone managing well at home who needs a hand at one or both ends of the day
  • A family carer who needs support with the physical aspects of providing care
  • Someone home from hospital who needs help for a few weeks while they get their strength back
  • Anyone who wants to stay at home and needs personal care to make that possible

When it is not the right answer. If someone needs help at unpredictable times through the day and night, visiting personal care will not be enough on its own — live-in or night care is the honest answer, and we will say so.

What is included

What personal care covers

The care plan is written with you, so this is a starting point rather than a fixed list.

  • Washing and bathing

A strip wash, a shower or a bath, with as much or as little help as you need, while always protecting your privacy, dignity and choices.

  • Dressing and grooming

Help choosing clothes, dressing, hair care and shaving, so you can feel comfortable and ready for the day.

  • Continence support

Discreet, unhurried, and without any fuss made about it. Our carers are trained in continence care and skin integrity.

  • Medication

Medication prompting or administration, where agreed following an assessment and included in the care plan. All medication support is recorded appropriately.

  • Moving safely

Support to transfer, stand and walk, including hoists and slide sheets where the assessment calls for them.

  • Breakfast and a start to the day

A proper cup of tea, something to eat, and the curtains open. Small things that are not small.

Questions

What families ask about personal care

If yours is not here, ring 0161 531 3233 and ask.

Will it be the same carer?

That is what we build the rota around. Holidays and sickness happen, and when they do we tell you in advance who is coming instead.

Can I ask for a male or female carer?

Yes. We will discuss your preferences during the assessment and do our best to match you with a suitable male or female carer.

What is the shortest visit?

Our minimum visit is one hour. This gives our carers enough time to provide safe, unhurried support and spend meaningful time with you.
